Executive Director, Social Service Agency at Berkshire Food Project
North Adams, MA

About the Job

The Berkshire Food Project (BFP) seeks to alleviate hunger, food insecurity, and social isolation by serving hot meals five times a week at the First Congregational Church of North Adams, MA.

The job involves supervising an active kitchen that serves 80-100 meals at one sitting every weekday; managing paid staff and volunteers; writing grants; fund raising; keeping the books; preparing financial reports for monthly board meetings; and insuring that BFP provides a safe and welcoming space for all. The person should be ready to improvise, eager to serve as the public face of the organization, committed to its mission, and ready to make the BFP part of the transformation of North Adams. Because the BFP is often the first open door for people in need, a ready knowledge of—and cheerful collaboration with--all available social service agencies is also necessary.

Knowledge or experience of commercial meal preparation; demonstrated time management and communication skills; at least three years’ experience in social service management and/or grant writing; Serve Safe by start date (cost would be compensated if necessary); basic first aid, CPR, Narcan, and AED certification a plus.

Weekdays, 30-40 hours per week

Salary $35K- $42K, negotiable, depending on hours and experience; at least 50 percent subsidy for basic health insurance; mileage reimbursement for business travel; $500 annual set-aside for dental coverage; paid sick leave up to 2 weeks; 2 weeks paid vacation annually.
