The University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for the position of Licensing Associate in the Technology Transfer Office (TTO). The Licensing Associate will work closely with investigators to solicit invention disclosures, to evaluate technologies for patentability and commercialization potential, and to perform market analyses of commercialization potentials. Under the supervision of the TTO Director, the Licensing Associate will initiate negotiations for licensing/option agreements and other related contracts. The Licensing Associate will work within TTO at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or physics plus 4 years of experience in the commercialization of technology; Master’s degree in one of these fields plus 2 years of experience. Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, or physics is preferred.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
3. The ability to interact effectively in both the academic and corporate cultures. Must be comfortable communicating with scientists, research sponsors, industry representatives and patent attorneys.
4. The ability to work both independently and within a team environment, and to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
5. Experience in drafting research reports preferred.
6. Experience in drafting and negotiating various agreements involving intellectual property is desirable but not required.
7. Knowledge of intellectual property law and licensing practices is desirable but not required.
8. Must be a highly self-motivated professional with exceptional sales, marketing and negotiation abilities.
9. Must be detail oriented and able to simultaneously manage numerous projects.
10. Due to export control compliance reasons, candidates for this position must be qualified as a U.S. Person under the regulations [15 CFR Parts 730-774 & 22 CFR Parts 120-130].
